SINTOK, 19 June 2025: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has made history by advancing to the 491st position in the QS World University Rankings (WUR) 2026, rising from 554th the previous year. This notable achievement underscores UUM’s growing excellence in the global higher education arena.
The rise of 63 positions reflects UUM’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the quality of education, driving high-impact research and expanding its international collaboration networks.
This achievement positions UUM as the sixth best public university in Malaysia, a commendable milestone it has maintained since 2020, thus cementing its status as the top university after the nation’s research universities (RU).
UUM has also shown consistent improvement in QS WUR over the years, hence strengthening its reputation among international institutions of higher learning.
UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan, described this accomplishment as a testament of the university’s dedication to advancing the aspirations of the UUM Strategic Plan while aligning with the Ministry of Higher Education’s initiative to elevate the global visibility and standing of Malaysian universities.
According to him, employers have also played a vital role in enhancing UUM’s reputation by continuing to place their trust in UUM graduates, who consistently demonstrate competence and competitiveness in the workforce. Alumni, too, continue to serve as global ambassadors for UUM’s academic excellence.
Moreover, he also stated that the active involvement of academic peers and researchers, both domestically and internationally, has significantly enhanced UUM’s research output and publication landscape.
Looking ahead, UUM remains firmly committed to enhancing academic performance, boosting graduate employability, strengthening international networks and reinforcing research excellence to ensure sustainable growth, broaden global collaborations, and advance high-impact research.
