UUM Vice-Chancellor Visits Students Affected by Putra Heights Gas Explosion
SUBANG JAYA, 6 April 2025: – The Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Prof. Dato’ Dr. Foad Sakdan, visited UUM students who were affected by the gas explosion that occurred in Putra Heights last Tuesday. These students were evacuated for safety reasons and are currently sheltered at the Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS).
During his visit, Prof. Dr. Foad also inspected the work of UUM volunteers, coordinated by MASKUM JPT, who have been actively supporting recovery efforts following the explosion. The gas pipeline incident caused a fire and significant property damage in the area.
The explosion forced the evacuation of local residents, including several UUM students, to the PPS for their safety.
In response, UUM, through the Centre for Student Excellence and Leadership (SELECT) and the Student Affairs Department (JHEP), has extended a range of immediate assistance to the affected students. This support includes disaster relief, food boxes, fruit baskets, and flexibility in the registration deadline for the new semester.
Additionally, the affected students received cash donations, which were distributed to those directly impacted by the incident.
Accompanying the Vice-Chancellor during the visit were Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof. Dr. Ahmad Martadha Mohamed, along with officers from SELECT and representatives from the UUM Student Representative Council. Together, they offered emotional and practical support to the students at the PPS.
