31 Senior PDRM Officers Enroll in UUM Master of Science in Strategic Studies

SINTOK, 6 October 2025: A total of 31 senior Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) officers from the Kedah and Perlis Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) have been selected and officially enrolled in the Master of Science Strategic Studies Programme for the First Semester of the 2025/2026 Academic Year (A251).

The registration ceremony was held at the Auditorium of the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) School of International Studies (SoIS). The event was graced by the Vice-Chancellor of UUM, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohd Foad Sakdan, who warmly welcomed the newly registered officers.

Prof. Dr Mohd Foad highlighted that the strategic cooperation between UUM and PDRM began in 2020, marked by the participation of 35 officers from the Perlis IPK in the programme’s first cohort. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, he noted, all students successfully completed their studies through close collaboration between the two institutions.

“I am confident that these students will acquire new knowledge and the latest technologies, including artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT and Gemini, to strengthen their expertise in the field of strategic studies. I am optimistic that all these students will successfully complete their studies and graduate at the 40th UUM Convocation Ceremony,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Dean of SoIS, Assoc. Prof. Dr Nazariah Osman, stated that this registration reflects the ongoing strategic partnership between two key national institutions – UUM and PDRM – aimed at advancing the knowledge, skills, and intellectual capacities of national security officers.

She emphasised that the involvement of senior PDRM officers in this programme demonstrates PDRM’s commitment to developing officers who are not only competent in their respective areas, but also well-versed in the increasingly in complex and evolving national security issues.

“This programme represents a continuation of the initiative that began in 2019, when UUM launched the Master of Science in Strategic Studies programme for PDRM officers from IPK Perlis. Since that time, three cohorts have completed the programme successfully.

“This collaboration has fostered an extensive professional network and strengthen the development of a national strategic community, with UUM assuming a significant role in the field of security and public policy studies,” he said.

Dr. Nazariah further emphasised that UUM, particularly SoIS and GSGSG, is committed to ensuring the success of the programme, not only from an academic standpoint but also in providing continuous support throughout the study process. The initiatives offered encompass flexible and relevant modules, experienced teaching staff and proactive administrative support, all of which contribute to a smooth and effective learning experience.

She also congratulated all 31 officers who were selected, and expressed UUM’s pride in being part of their professional journey. She also expressed hope that this programme would stand as a milestone of academic achievement and a symbol of strong cooperation between PDRM and UUM.

Similarly, the Dean of GSGSG, Prof. Dr Rusdi Omar, extended his warmest congratulations and welcome to the newly enrolled students. He noted that the officers’ decision to pursue postgraduate studies reflects their dedication to lifelong learning and their commitment to serving as leaders in advancing knowledge for the betterment of their careers and society.

“UUM continuously strives to create a supportive and relevant learning environment that addresses contemporary needs, while upholding the principles of professionalism, integrity and excellence.

“Although you are all full-time officers, we are confident that with effective time management and support from the faculty, you will be able to complete your studies to a high standard,” she said.

Inspector Ahmad Shaiful Ahmad Jamal, 33, from IPK Kedah, shared his motivation for further studies was driven by a desire to enhance his knowledge and improve his quality of life.

In attendance at the ceremony were the Head of the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK), Datuk Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal; Deputy Dean of Academics, Dr Shazwanis Shukri; Chairman of INTAFF Programme, Dr Muhammad Ali Ridha Norman, along with senior officials from PDRM and UUM.
