SINTOK, 2 June 2026: In the spirit of Hari Raya Aidiladha, the Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) UUM Chapter successfully organised “BGS Gives Back (ii): The Adha Giving”, a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at promoting sustainability, social responsibility, and community engagement through the collection and redistribution of preloved clothing.

The programme invited students and lecturers of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) to contribute wearable clothing items, including traditional Hari Raya attire, shirts, jeans, trousers, skirts, scarves, and other casual apparel. Beyond encouraging charitable giving, the initiative sought to cultivate greater awareness of sustainable consumption practices by extending the lifespan of clothing and reducing textile waste, which remains a growing environmental concern worldwide.
Following the collection phase, the donated items were carefully sorted, organised, and displayed at a dedicated distribution booth established at C-Mart, Changlun. Members of the local community were invited to browse and select clothing items free of charge, enabling the contributions to directly benefit individuals and families in need. As an added gesture of goodwill, each participating resident received a 250-gram packet of uncooked rice, symbolising the programme’s commitment to sharing blessings with the sider community during the festive season.

The initiative not only provided practical assistance to local residents but also fostered meaningful interactions between university members and the surrounding community. Through these engagements, participants were able to experience first-hand the transformative impact of collective generosity and volunteerism.
In recognition of the kindness and support demonstrated by donors, contributors from the UUM community were presented with commemorative keychains as tokens of appreciation for their generosity and active participation in the programme.
Beyond its charitable dimension, the programme also served as an educational platform to promote environmental stewardship and responsible consumption. By encouraging the recycling, repurposing, and reuse of clothing, the initiative underscored the importance of adopting more sustainable lifestyles while reducing the environmental footprint associated with fast fashion and excessive consumerism.

The programme received overwhelming support from students, lecturers, and volunteers who generously contributed donations and assisted in various aspects of its implementation. Their enthusiastic involvement reflected the strong culture of volunteerism, civic consciousness, and social solidarity that continues to thrive within the UUM community.
Overall, “BGS Gives Back (ii): The Adha Giving” exemplified the values of compassion, sustainability, and collective action in creating meaningful social impact. Through initiatives such as this, the BGS UUM Chapter continues to reaffirm its commitment to community development, environmental responsibility, and the cultivation of socially conscious future leaders who are equipped to make a positive difference in society.
