PROF. DR AHMAD MARTADHA APPOINTED AS NEW VICE-CHANCELLOR OF UUM
UUM ONLINE: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) ushers in a new chapter of leadership with the appointment of Prof. Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed as its Vice-Chancellor for a two-year term, effective yesterday.
The letter of appointment, signed by the Minister of Higher Education, Dato’ Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, was formally presented to him at the Ministry of Higher Education in Putrajaya.
Prof. Dr Ahmad Martadha officially commenced his tenure today, marking his first day in office by clocking in at 8.39 a.m. at the Sultan Sallehuddin Chancellery Building.
A highly respected scholar in Public Administration and Public Policy, he previously held the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) at UUM for nearly four years, where he played a pivotal role in advancing student development and institutional engagement.
His academic journey spans esteemed institutions in the United States, having earned a Bachelor of Political Science from Southern Illinois University–Carbondale, a Master of Public Administration from Indiana State University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Public Administration/Political Science from Southern Illinois University–Carbondale.
His research focuses on administrative reform, policy analysis, and governance. His scholarly contributions have not only enriched academic discourse but have also earned wide recognition at both national and international levels.
Beyond his research endeavours, Prof. Dr Ahmad Martadha is widely recognised as an academic leader at the global level. He is actively involved in several international associations, including serving as a Founding and Executive Member of the Asia Pacific Society of Public Affairs, Chairman of the ASEAN University Network Student Affairs Network, and President of the IMT-GT Varsity Council.
At the national level, he contributes his expertise as Chairman of the STPM General Studies Committee and Chairman of the Public University Leadership and Training Council (MAKLUM). He is also frequently invited as a commentator in mainstream local and international media, particularly on issues related to foreign policy and international politics.
One of UUM’s pioneering academic staff members, Prof. Dr Ahmad Martadha began his career at the university as a Tutor in the Department of Public Management in 1993, shortly after UUM commenced operations in Sintok in 1990.
In other words, more than three decades of dedicated service stand as a testament to his deep-rooted loyalty to Universiti Utara Malaysia and the state of Kedah.
