UUM Vice-Chancellor’s Cup Tournament Uncovers New Talent, Strengthens Campus Sports Culture
SINTOK, 14 April 2026: The Launching Ceremony of the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Vice-Chancellor’s Cup Tournament 2026 was held in high spirits at the Merbau Room, Sultan Sallehuddin Golf Club (KGSS), recently, marking the beginning of one of the university’s most anticipated student sporting events.
The prestigious ceremony was officiated by UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed, who reaffirmed the university’s unwavering commitment to promoting sports development and cultivating a healthy, active lifestyle among students.
In his remarks, Prof Dr Ahmad Martadha said the tournament serves as an important platform to uncover new sporting talent among students, while simultaneously strengthening the culture of sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy living within the campus community.
A total of 16 student residential halls (inasis), including the participation of off-campus students, will compete in the 2026 edition of the tournament, making it one of the largest tournaments organised by the university to date.
Adding to the excitement, this year’s football competition will be contested in two main categories, namely the Super League Cup and the Premier League Cup, thus offering broader opportunities for participation and elevating the competitive spirit of the tournament.
In addition to netball and volleyball, tenpin bowling has been introduced as a new event for the 2026 edition, bringing greater variety and fresh appeal to the tournament.
This tournament is scheduled to take place from 14 to 29 April 2026, and is expected to feature spirited and closely fought contests among participants representing their respective inasis.
It is hoped that the launch of this tournament will serve as a catalyst for an even more vibrant and successful edition, while nurturing athletes with the potential to represent the university at both the national and international levels.
Also present to enliven the event were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Prof Dr Ram Al Jaffri Saad, who is performing the duties of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni); the Dean of Student Affairs (HEP); the Director of the National Golf Academy (AGN); representatives of the Student Representative Council (MPP); as well as the principals of inasis.
