BGS UUM Chapter organises “Seas the Change” beach clean-up initiative
PENANG, 13 January 2025: The Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) UUM Chapter successfully organised “SEAS THE CHANGE,” a beach clean-up initiative at Pantai Esen, Batu Maung, as part of the annual BGS Gives Back program.
Programme Director, Tan Jou Yie said, BGS UUM Chapter consulted with a local NGO, “Beach Cleanup Penang” which specialises in marine conservation, prior to the program. The initiative was aimed at acquiring essential knowledge regarding the precautionary measures and procedures necessary for conducting a beach clean-up at Pantai Esen.
The event witnessed the involvement of over 30 UUM students who made significant contributions to addressing marine pollution resulting from industrial waste, thus positively impacting the local community and environment. The day began with a safety briefing and an overview of the significance of environmental conservation.
Participants engaged in waste removal while gaining insights into the essential role of sustainability and the importance of youth involvement in environmental preservation.
This initiative highlights the BGS UUM Chapter’s commitment to leadership, social responsibility, and sustainable development, providing a platform that encourages students to actively engage in the preservation of natural resources for future generations.
