TAIPING, 6 May 2025: A vibrant spirit of unity and cultural appreciation filled the air at the EMGS Networking Dinner with UUM International Students, held recently at Taiping Perdana Hotel. Jointly-organised by Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) and the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Centre for International Affairs and Cooperation (CIAC), the event was a highlight of the UUM-Taiping Experiential Learning and CSR Programme 2025.

The evening brought together 42 international students from UUM, senior university officials, and EMGS representatives for a memorable night of connection, celebration, and cultural exchange. More than just a dinner, the event served as a meaningful platform to strengthen bonds between Malaysia’s higher education ecosystem and its global student community.

In his welcoming speech, UUM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Professor Dr Mohd Azizuddin Mohd Sani, extended heartfelt appreciation to EMGS for its steadfast commitment to promoting Malaysia as a world-class education destination.

As of 26 April 2025, he noted, UUM is home to 2,579 international students, with 1,987 of whom are enrolled in postgraduate programmes – underscoring the university’s strong global appeal and academic prestige.

He also lauded the UUM-Taiping Experiential Learning and CSR Programme, organised by CIAC, for its immersive approach to cultural education. “I understand our international students will continue their journey through Taiping’s rich historical tapestry, guided by expert local storytellers.

“Such experiences offer more than just sightseeing – they foster a deeper connection to Malaysia’s diverse cultural and historical heritage,” he shared.

Adding colour and energy to the evening were four dazzling cultural performances by CIAC staff and international students from China. Blending music, dance, and traditional artistry, these performances captivated the audience and embodied the multicultural harmony that defines the UUM experience.

Chairman of EMGS, Datuk Ahmad Shalimin Ahmad Shaffie, in his speech, reflected on Taiping’s unique charm and historical significance. “Taiping is truly enchanting,” he said.

“So many of Malaysia’s ‘firsts’—from the first railway and museum to the first golf course—originated right here. It is only fitting that our international students begin their experiential journey in a place so rich in legacy and meaning.”

The evening reaffirmed EMGS’s dedication to enhancing the international student experience through meaningful partnerships, cultural engagement, and a shared vision for education excellence.

Also gracing the occasion were CEO of EMGS, Mr. Novie Tajuddin; Head of Regional Marketing at EMGS, Mr. Megat Mohd Samsul Megat Ismail; Director of UUM CIAC, Assoc. Prof. Dr Arpah Abu Bakar; and CIAC Mobility Manager, Dr Azahar Kasim.

The night concluded on a warm inspiring note, with a strong message of inclusion, cultural pride, and global friendship —leaving UUM’s international students with treasured memories of Taiping and a deeper sense of belonging on their Malaysian academic journey. – Mohd Azri Abdul Aziz
