UUM explores strategic collaboration with Samarkand Institute of Economics and Service

SAMARKAND, 27 October 2025: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) continues to expand its global academic outreach as Assoc. Prof. Dr Nerda Zura Zaibidi, Acting Dean of the School of Quantitative Sciences (SQS), together with Dr Sahubar Ali Mohamed Nadhar Khan, Deputy Dean of Students Affairs and Alumni, paid an official visit to the Samarkand Institute of Economics and Service (SIES), Uzbekistan.

The visit took place following the conclusion of the 6th Innovation and Analytics Conference & Exhibition (IACE2025), held from 20 to 22 October 2025 at Tashkent State University of Economics (TSUE). Jointly organised by SQS UUM and TSUE, the conference carried the theme “Leveraging Data-Driven Analytics to Craft Innovations in the Digital Era” and featured Scopus-indexed proceedings published by AIP Publishing.
Also part of the UUM delegation were Vice Chairperson of IACE2025, Assoc. Prof. Dr Jafri Zulkepli Hew; Committee Member of ICOQSIA 2026, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adyda Ibrahim; MoU Committee Member of SQS, Dr. Zurina Hanafi, and MoU Committee Member of SQS, Assoc. Prof. Dr Rosshairy Abd Rahman.
The visit aimed to strengthen academic collaboration, with the MoU between UUM and SIES currently in its final stage of completion. The partnership will encompass joint research initiatives, student and staff mobility initiatives, and academic programme development, reflecting both institutions’ shared commitment to advancing quantitative and data-driven education.

The visit also provided a platform to promote two upcoming flagship events hosted by SQS which are The 9th International Conference on Quantitative Sciences and Its Applications (ICOQSIA 2026) and The 7th Innovation and Analytics Conference & Exhibition (IACE2027).
SIES leadership expressed keen interest in formalising the partnership and collaborating in the areas of economics, data science, and quantitative studies.
