SBM Bids a Fond Farewell to Prof. Dr. Faizuniah and Dr. Attia

SINTOK, 8 June 2026: The School of Business Management (SBM), and the Human Resource Management (HRM) Programme recently hosted a heartfelt event to honour two esteemed academics, Prof. Dr. Faizuniah Pangil and Dr. Attia Aman Ullah Alvi, in recognition of their invaluable contributions to Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM).
The event served as a meaningful tribute to two distinguished educators whose dedication, professionalism, and commitment to academic excellence have left an enduring impact on the university community. Through a series of thoughtfully organised activities, colleagues and staff gathered to celebrate their achievements, reflect on cherish memories, and express their appreciation for the remarkable legacies they leave behind.

A Symbolic Farewell: The Final Thumbprint Session
The day’s proceedings commenced at 3.00 p.m. at the main foyer of the SBM building with the symbolic Final Thumbprint Session. The atmosphere was filled with a mixture of pride, gratitude, and nostalgia as both honourees approached the university attendance system for the final time.
SBM Dean, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shuhymee Ahmad, together with academic and administrative staff, gathered to witness the occasion and offer their heartfelt congratulations and best wishes.
For Prof. Dr. Faizuniah Pangil, the final thumbprint marked the conclusion of an illustrious academic career and her official retirement from public service after decades of dedicated service to higher education. For Dr. Attia Aman Ullah Alvi, the moment symbolised the end of a meaningful chapter at UUM as she prepares to return to her homeland of Kashmir after contributing significantly as an international faculty member.

Although simple in form, the gesture carried profound significance, symbolising the culmination of years of service, dedication, and scholarly contribution to the university.
An Afternoon of Appreciation and Reflection
Following the symbolic session, guests proceeded to the EDC Hotel, where an exclusive farewell hi-tea was organised by the HRM Programme. The gathering provided a warm and intimate setting for colleagues to celebrate the accomplishments of the two distinguished academics while sharing fond memories and words of appreciation.
The formal programme commenced at 3:30 p.m. with welcoming remarks from the master of ceremonies, who highlighted the academic achievements, professional milestones, and lasting contributions of both honourees to SBM and the wider university community.
To bless the occasion, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Md. Lazim Mohd Zin led a prayer seeking continued blessings, good health, happiness, and success for Prof. Dr. Faizuniah Pangil and Dr. Attia as they embark on the next chapters of their respective journeys.

The event became even more meaningful with a special tribute delivered by the Chairperson of the HRM programme, Dr. Edora Ismail. Speaking on behalf of the department, she expressed profound appreciation for the dedication, mentorship, and unwavering commitment demonstrated by both lecturers throughout their years of service.
“Every meeting must eventually end in a parting, but the knowledge shared and the kindness sown by Prof. Dr. Faizuniah and Dr. Attia will continue to flourish in the history of SBM. We thank them sincerely for their invaluable contributions, sacrifices and commitment to nurturing future generations,” she said.

Prof. Dr. Faizuniah Pangil expressed her heartfelt gratitude to UUM for the opportunities and experiences she had enjoyed throughout her academic career. Dr. Attia Aman Ullah Alvi, meanwhile, shared her memorable experiences and reflections on her time in Malaysia. She spoke warmly about the friendships she had forged, the professional opportunities she had embraced, and the sense of belonging she had experienced during her tenure at UUM.
Expressing deep appreciation for the kindness and camaraderie extended by her colleagues, she described her years at the university as both professionally enriching and personally fulfilling.
Following the speeches, guests enjoyed the hi-tea reception while engaging in lively conversations, exchanging stories, and reminiscing about memorable moments shared with the two academics. Before the event concluded, special tokens of appreciation and farewell gifts were presented by Prof. Dr. Abdul Halim Abdul Majid in recognition of the honourees’ distinguished service and enduring contributions to the university.
The celebration ended with a group photography session, capturing moments of joy, gratitude, and reflection that will undoubtedly remain treasured memories for all in attendance. The event officially concluded at 4.50 p.m.
While Prof. Dr. Faizuniah embarks on a well-deserved retirement and Dr. Attia prepares for a new chapter in Kashmir, the impact of their contributions will continue to resonate throughout SBM and UUM.
