Tuanku Chancellor Grants Royal Audience to New LPU Chairman and Vice-Chancellor

ALOR SETAR, 18 January 2026 – His Royal Highness Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah, Tuanku Sultan of Kedah Darul Aman and Chancellor of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), graciously granted a royal audience to Tan Sri Dr Mazlan Yusoff, Chairman of the UUM University Board of Directors (LPU), and Prof. Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed, Vice-Chancellor of UUM, at Istana Anak Bukit this morning.

The audience provided a distinguished platform to formally present the newly appointed university leadership to His Royal Highness, while also apprising him of the LPU’s strategic direction, the university’s most recent achievements, and key initiatives dedicated to advancing the socio-economic development of Kedah.

During the session, Tan Sri Dr Mazlan outlined the composition of the University Board of Directors and received invaluable guidance from His Royal Highness. He conveyed his steadfast commitment to reinforcing UUM’s governance framework and to working in close synergy with the Vice-Chancellor and the university’s management to ensure transparent, efficient, and forward-looking institutional leadership.

Prof. Dr Ahmad Martadha subsequently apprised His Royal Highness on UUM’s programmes that have been undertaken and are in progress to advance the development of the state of Kedah for 2025 and 2026, highlighting the university’s proactive role in empowering local communities. He reported that RM3.13 million has been allocated under UUM’s community research grants for Kedah, supporting 45 knowledge-transfer and community development projects across the state.

In 2026, UUM will undertake a series of programmes to strengthen the socio-economic development of the communities throughout Kedah, including supporting the state’s initiative to plant two million trees.
