UUM–Sociopreneur Indonesia Forge Strategic Collaboration to Strengthen Regional Social Entrepreneurship
SINTOK, 18 June 2026: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) continues to expand its international collaboration network through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indonesia’s leading social entrepreneurship organisation, Sociopreneur Indonesia (SID), in a ceremony held at the Visitors’ Lounge, Chancellery Building, UUM.
The ceremony was officiated by UUM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr Ram Al Jaffri Saad, who represented UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed.
In his speech, he emphasised that the collaboration aligns with UUM’s aspirations to enhance its international presence and strengthen its position as a leader in social entrepreneurship in the region.
He also expressed his appreciation to SID for its willingness to establish a strategic collaboration founded on innovation, community development and social impact.
Meanwhile, Sociopreneur Indonesia Executive Director, Dr Dessy Aliandrina described the collaboration as a significant milestone in expanding the cross-border social entrepreneurship ecosystem between Malaysia and Indonesia.
According to her, the synergy between UUM’s academic expertise and SID’s extensive experience in developing social enterprises would create greater opportunities for youths and communities to generate sustainable and meaningful impact.
Through this collaboration, both parties will explore various initiatives including the development of social entrepreneurship training modules, student and community mobility programmes, joint research activities, scholarly publications, and the implementation of community-based projects that will benefit communities in both countries.
This collaboration further reflects the shared commitment of UUM and SID to nurture more social entrepreneurs who are capable of addressing societal challenges through innovative, sustainable and high-impact approaches. Ultimately, these efforts are expected to contribute to the socioeconomic development of the region.
