UUM Leads in Local Government, Signs Mou With KPKT
BUKIT TINGGI, 10 January 2025: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) is one of the country’s public universities that signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) through the Housing and Local Government Training Institute (I-KPKT). The signing ceremony took place at the I-KPKT Multipurpose Hall on Friday.
The MoU signing ceremony was witnessed by the Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government, Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu.
Under this collaboration, UUM, through its School of Government (SOG) will collaborate in the field of local government.
In her speech, Datuk Aiman Athirah highlighted that the MoU will strengthen cooperation on an equitable basis and mutual benefit through the engagement of academic experts, the intelligent sharing of research findings, data and implementation of policies, training areas, and studies in urban administration and development.
According to her, this collaboration bridges the gap between the government and academia, paving the way for advancing research, development and implementation within the housing and local government sectors.
She said that this MoU aims to enhance, promote, and develop cooperation at the KPKT level through I-KPKT on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.
“Through this initiative, I am confident that we will cultivate a greater number of highly skilled professional researchers and leaders in specialized relevant fields, capable of enhancing the nation’s well-being and its people.
“This MoU marks a significant milestone as it is the first time that PKT has engaged with three public universities simultaneously. Therefore, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to I-KPKT for its extraordinary initiative and commitment in realising this memorandum of understanding to fruition. I am confident that this collaboration will serve as a catalyst for more positive developments within the ministry,” she said during her address at the MoU Signing Ceremony between KPKT represented by I-KPKT and the public universities (UUM, UiTM, IIUM) held at the I-KPKT Multipurpose Hall on Friday.
The ceremony also witnessed the signing of MoU by two other public universities, namely Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). KPKT was represented by the Deputy Secretary-General of KPKT, Datuk M Noor Azman Taib while UUM was represented by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan, UiTM by the Deputy Vice- Chancellor (Industry, Community & Alumni Network), Prof. TPr. Dr Jamalunlaili Abdullah and IIUM by the Deputy Rector for Research, Innovation and Development, Prof. Dr Mohamed Aslam Mohamed Haneef.
Also present at the event were the Dean of SOG, Assoc. Prof. Pmgr. Sr. Dr Mohamad Sukeri Khalid alongside the representatives of KPKT and senior university officials.
