The 6th International Qualitative Research Conference 2024 (QRC2024) Concludes with Resounding Success
SINTOK: The 6th International Qualitative Research Conference 2024 (QRC2024), held virtually from 1 till 3 October 2024, concluded on a high note, attracting 52 participants from countries including Malaysia, India, China, Jordan, and Spain.
Jointly organized by the Institute for Strategic and Sustainable Accounting Development (ISSAD) and the Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy, Universiti Utara Malaysia (TISSA-UUM), the event underscored the growing global interest in qualitative research and its expanding impact across diverse academic and professional fields.
QRC2024 kicked off on 1st October with an intensive Qualitative Research Workshop, offering participants hands-on experience and deeper insights into cutting-edge qualitative research methodologies. The workshop was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Mursyid Arshad from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) alongside Dr. Adura Ahmad from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM).
The conference was officially opened by Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohd Foad Sakdan, the Vice-Chancellor of UUM, who emphasized the significance of qualitative research in shaping future scholarship and its growing relevance across various fields.
Following the opening, attendees enjoyed keynote addresses by Emeritus Prof. Dato’ Dr. Othman Lebar from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), who delivered an engaging presentation on “Crafting Authentic Narratives: The Role of Qualitative Research in a Changing World.” Prof. Dato’ Othman emphasized the importance of constructing genuine, contextually rich narratives in today’s dynamic research landscape.
Prof. Dr. Zaleha Othman from UUM later delivered a thought-provoking address on “Qualitative Research Transformation: Narratives that Capture the Voices of Change,” exploring the evolution of qualitative research and its vital role in amplifying the voices of marginalized communities and movements advocating for social change.
The academic momentum continued with parallel presentations on the second and third days of the conference. Participants explored a wide array of studies employing qualitative methodologies, fostering rich discussions and the exchange of ideas. Scholars delved into themes such as accounting, business studies, social justice, education, and healthcare, providing valuable insights into the depth and versatility of qualitative inquiry.
The conference concluded with best paper and best presenter awards recognizing outstanding authors and presenters. In her closing remarks, the Deputy Conference Chair, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Natrah Saad, representing the Conference Chair, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azharudin Ali, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all participants, facilitators, and speakers for their immense contributions. She also extended her deep appreciation to the QRC2024 committee members, who were instrumental in the event’s success.
Looking ahead, ISSAD and TISSA-UUM are already planning for upcoming editions, with QRC2026 set to deliver even more engaging discussions, innovative research, and collaborative opportunities. – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hafizah Abd Mutalib
