SINTOK, 18 Mac 2025, The Al-Quran, as the magnificent revelation from Allah SWT, must be the primary source in shaping the mindset, values, and work ethics of the entire campus community. It is essential not merely to read but also to comprehend and apply it in every facet of our lives.
The Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan, stated that our engagement in this institution of knowledge is intricately connected with the first command received by Prophet Muhammad PBUH, which is ‘Iqra’ (read), directly emphasising the significance of knowledge in human life.
“This event marks the turning point of a major transformation in the history of humankind. A life that was once shrouded in darkness due to ignorance is now illuminated by the light of knowledge and guidance from Allah SWT through the Al-Quran.
“Understanding and valuing the wisdom behind the event of Nuzul Al-Quran holds profound meaning, which not only encourages self-reflection but also nurtures a deep love for the incomparable divine revelation,” he said during the Nuzul Al-Quran 1446/2025 Celebration Ceremony and UUM Monthly Staff Assembly held at UUM Sultan Badlishah Mosque.
According to him, each time the 17th of Ramadan arrives, Muslims around the world commemorate the great event in Islamic history referred to as Nuzul Al-Quran.
Nuzul Al-Quran pertains to the revelation of the Al-Quran to Prophet Muhammad PBUH through the intermediary of Angel Jibril. This event occurred on the night of the 17th of Ramadan, as stated in Allah SWT’s words in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 185:
“The month of Ramadan is that in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs of the guidance and the criterion (between right and wrong).”
During the event, the Vice-Chancellor expressed his appreciation for the UUM Islamic Centre’s ongoing vital role in bolstering and enlivening Nuzul Al-Quran-related activities.
“May the blessings of the Al-Quran continue to illuminate our lives, guiding us to be devoted servants who remain close to His revelation. Let us nurture a lasting love for the Al-Quran, not only during Ramadan but throughout our lives,” he said with hope.
On this occasion, he also extended his deepest appreciation and gratitude to all parties involved in contributing to the success of UUM’s Nuzul Al-Quran Celebration for the year 1446H.
The event was further enlivened with a Nuzul Al-Quran Lecture delivered by the Religious Officer of Yan District, Kedah, Mr. Mohd Ikmal Hafif Azmi, followed by Ihya’ Ramadan Donation Session.
