PPDK IMPIAN UUM: Turning Hope into Reality
SINTOK, 13 April 2026: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) continues to advance its commitment to community wellbeing and inclusivity through the establishment of a Community-Based Rehabilitation Centre (PPDK), to be known as the UUM Friendly Intervention and Rehabilitation Centre for Special Children (PPDK IMPIAN UUM).

A mock cheque presentation amounting to RM1.5 million was officiated by the Director-General of Higher Education, Prof Datuk Dr Azlinda Azman, to the UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed.
The ceremony was held at the student lounge of Proton Student Residential Hall (Inasis Proton), UUM, and was witnessed by senior officers from the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), UUM’s top management, as well as members of the PPDK IMPIAN UUM sponsoring committee.
Chairman of PPDK IMPIAN UUM, Dr Nazmin Abdullah, said that the establishment of PPDK IMPIAN UUM marks an important milestone for the university, making it the 10th university-based PPDK to be established at a public university in Malaysia under the 2026 Budget initiative. The centre is expected to begin operations later this year.
According to her, the initiative is set to provide meaningful added value to the university community, particularly by serving as a support centre for staff with children with special needs.

“Beyond functioning as a community centre, PPDK IMPIAN UUM also supports the university’s aspiration of creating an inclusive and harmonious campus environment,” he said.
For the record, the sponsoring committee of PPDK IMPIAN UUM comprises academic and non-academic staff from various schools, centres of excellence, and areas of expertise.
In line with the university’s role as a leader in knowledge and innovation, PPDK IMPIAN UUM will also be developed as a research and innovation hub. The establishment of the centre has the potential to support the achievement of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) among academics, while also generating significant impact on both university and community development.
The establishment of PPDK IMPIAN UUM reflects UUM’s ongoing commitment to empowering community wellbeing and driving holistic social and academic transformation.
