SINTOK, 20 April 2026: The School of Law, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), successfully hosted PR Weekend 2026 from 3 to 5 April 2026, bringing together law students from across the country for a three-day programme dedicated to intellectual exchange, professional networking, and contemporary legal discourse.

Held under the theme “Law, Community and Sustainable Justice” and the tagline “Filming Diversity, Bridging Adversity,” the programme served as a dynamic platform for aspiring legal minds to engage with pressing societal issues while fostering stronger inter-university collaboration.

A total of 37 participants from six institutions took part in the programme, namely Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), UiTM Constitutional Law Team, Advanced Tertiary College (ATC), and Brickfields Asia College (BAC). Their participation reflected a shared commitment to legal excellence, critical inquiry, and the continued development of Malaysia’s future legal professionals.

The programme began with a Lex Tour, which introduced participants to several key landmarks across the UUM campus, including the Welcome Centre, the Ostrich and Deer Farm, the School of Law, UUM, the Sultanah Bahiyah Library, and the Muadzam Shah Hall. More than a campus familiarisation activity, the session also incorporated interactive elements designed to encourage engagement, strengthen camaraderie, and create early opportunities for networking among participants.

At the heart of the programme was the Lex Forum, themed “The Social Contract and National Identity.” The forum featured a distinguished panel of legal practitioners comprising Mr Mathew Thomas Philip (Thomas Philip Advocates and Solicitors), Mr Kuhan Manokaran (SAHA Associates), Mr Ahmad Iyas Husni (Thomas Philip Advocates and Solicitors), Mr Rezan Ezra (Lee & Poh Partnership), and Mr Sean Tan Yang Wei (Thomas Philip Advocates and Solicitors). Their insights offered participants a valuable opportunity to engage with contemporary legal and societal issues, while the discussion itself stimulated thoughtful reflection on the evolving relationship between law, identity, and nationhood.

Building on the momentum of the forum, the programme continued with the Lex Conference, where participating institutions presented research findings and proposed practical legal solutions to real-world challenges. The session showcased the participants’ analytical rigour, advocacy skills, and ability to connect legal theory with current societal needs.

The conference presentations were evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges comprising Ms Zarina Nadzimuddin of Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad, Mr Kuhan Manokaran of SAHA Associates, Mr Tan Chuan Yi of Rahmat Lim & Partners, and Mr Heng Aik Sze of Rozlan Khuen. Their presence further strengthened the programme’s professional relevance and underscored the value of industry and legal practitioner engagement in student development.

The programme concluded with PRisma: Kaleidoscope Ball, an appreciation dinner that celebrated the spirit of collaboration, achievement, and shared experience cultivated throughout the weekend. The evening featured a series of performances, a flash mob presentation, a programme montage, and a symbolic thumb-printing activity that served as a meaningful representation of unity, diversity, and the bonds forged among participants.

Organised by the Executive Committee of Public Relations and Alumni of the 22nd Law Students’ Society under the auspices of the School of Law, UUM, PR Weekend 2026 also received strong support from strategic partners and sponsors, including Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad, Yayasan Perkasa Siswa, LexisNexis Malaysia, as well as in-kind contributors such as Alor Tastiway, NBC Food Industry, and Printcious.

Overall, PR Weekend 2026 stood out as a meaningful platform for strengthening national student networks, enriching legal discourse, and reaffirming the role of law as a catalyst for community engagement and sustainable justice. More importantly, the programme reflected UUM’s continued commitment to nurturing future legal professionals who are intellectually grounded, socially conscious, and prepared to contribute to the evolving demands of the legal landscape. – Chen Lit Zhe and Dr. Nur Syaedah Kamis
