UUM Marks 41 Years of Excellence and Continued Growth
SINTOK, 18 February 2025: Since its inception four decades ago, Universiti Utara Malaysia has consistently served as an institution dedicated to the advancement knowledge and nation leadership.
Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohd Foad Sakdan, the Vice-Chancellor said that since its founding on 16 February 1984, the university has undergone remarkable growth, emerging as a distinguished centre of academic and research excellence.
According to him, the primary factor contributing to UUM’s success is its dedicated and highly competitive employees.
He said that the strength of UUM lies in its team of 3,058 staff members, whose unwavering dedication continues to drive the university’s aspirations as a leader in management and business education.
“As a university recognised for its excellence in the fields of management, business and entrepreneurship, UUM has played a pivotal role in developing highly skilled workforce that supports national development.
“Since the establishment of this university 41 years ago, the total number of UUM alumni has now reached 172,570,” he said at the 41st Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Foundation Day Celebration and 37th UUM Convocation Ceremony Appreciation Ceremony held at Mu’adzam Shah Hall this morning.
In addition to the public sector, the financial services sector has benefitted significantly from the contributions of UUM alumni, with 16 percent employed in this industry including prominent banking institutions such as Maybank and Bank Islam. Furthermore, alumni have also made their mark in other strategic sectors such as information technology (8 percent), manufacturing (5 percent), and health (3 percent), hence demonstrating the diverse range of expertise produced by UUM.
The ceremony was officiated by the Deputy Secretary-General (Policy)of the Ministry of Higher Education, Dato’ Dr. Megat Sany Megat Ahmad Supian.
Dr. Mohd Foad said that with an extensive and influential alumni network across various industries, UUM is confident of its ability to continue producing graduates who are competitive and set to become future leaders.
He also expressed his heartfelt appreciation to all the staff whose dedication ensured the success of the 37th UUM Convocation Ceremony.
According to him, the success of an event is not solely determined by what transpired on the main stage but also by the diligent efforts behind the scenes that ensure its seamless execution.
He acknowledged the invaluable commitment and dedication demonstrated by all individuals noting that their collective contributions from the initial preparations, the coordination of the ceremony, to the hospitality extended to the graduates and their families greatly enriched the experience of those being honoured.
