UUM and Malaysian Bar Sign MoU to Strengthen Legal Education

SINTOK, 10 February 2026: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Malaysian Bar to strengthen strategic cooperation in academic development, professionalism and competence of law students.

The MoU signing ceremony was held at the Sri Mersawa Room, EDC-UUM, and was officiated by UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed, and the President of the Malaysian Bar, Datuk Mohamad Ezri Abdul Wahab.

In his speech, Prof. Dr Martadha said that the strategic cooperation paves the way for more structured and sustainable collaboration between the two institutions, particularly through UUM’s School of Law (SoL).

“This MoU focuses on academic development, professional exposure and enhancement of student competencies, ensuring that our law students are better prepared to navigate the increasingly challenging realities of the legal profession. It is this collaboration that will bring meaningful benefits to both UUM students and lecturers,” he said.

In addition, UUM is confident that the partnership will contribute significantly in producing law graduates who are holistic, technologically literate, ethically grounded, and well-equipped to meet the evolving demands of the legal profession today and in the future.

Meanwhile, the President of the Malaysian Bar, Datuk Mohamad Ezri Abdul Wahab expressed optimism that the collaboration would further enhance the quality of law graduates from local universities, making them more competitive and on par with, or even superior to, graduates from foreign institutions.

He also congratulated UUM on its success in producing law graduates who demonstrate both professional excellence and strong ethical values.

Also present at the ceremony were Assistant Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the UUM School of Law, Professor Dr Harlida Abdul Wahab; Secretary of the Malaysian Bar, Mdm Murshidah Mustafa; members of the University Management Committee as well as senior officials from the Malaysian Bar and UUM.
