SINTOK: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has been evaluated by assessors from the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health (NCOSH) for the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Excellence Award in the Public Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Category for 2023.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan, expressed his gratitude and welcomed the nomination for the Public CEO OSH Award. He noted that today’s historic visit would determine whether the UUM Vice-Chancellor is eligible to win the OSH Award in this category.
He added that UUM’s nomination for this award is a significant achievement for the university in general.
He expressed hope that the assessors would provide the best possible assessment today, marking a historic moment for UUM’s OSH management.
“With great enthusiasm, I am confident and believe that every UUM staff member is eager for a double victory in this year’s OSH Award, in line with UUM’s 40th anniversary celebration.
“We are also aware that UUM has qualified for the final round of this award in the Higher Education Institution category, representing the state of Kedah. This visit serves as the evaluation session for the 2023 National OSH Excellence Award specifically for the Public Sector CEO category,” he said during the Opening Ceremony and Evaluation of the 2023 Occupational Safety and Health Award in the Public CEO category at the Senate Room.
UUM was audited by NCOSH on 4 July , and it is now awaiting the outcome of whether it has won the award in the mentioned category.
A video presentation on UUM’s OSH Management by Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad was shown before the audit session, followed by a Q&A session between the auditors and him in the Vice-Chancellor’s Meeting Room.
The evaluation panel was led by Deputy Director-General (Occupational Safety) of DOSH Malaysia, Mr. Bahrudin Mamat, along with the Director of the Petroleum Engineering Division, DOSH, Mr. Husdin Che Amat; DOSH Kedah Director, Mr. Idris Abdul Rahman; and Head of Event Management Section, NCOSH, Ir. Ts. Mohamed Haffis Mohossain Molla.
