VC’s Visit to NCIA Bolsters Collaboration

UUM ONLINE – The Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Utara Malaysia, (UUM) Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan, conducted an official visit to the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) Headquarters on 14 January 2025.

The purpose of the visit was to strengthen strategic cooperation between the two parties in an effort to advance the socio-economic development of the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER).

The UUM delegation was warmly received by welcomed by Mr. Mohamad Haris Kader Sultan, the Chief Executive Officer of NCIA, along with senior management team of NCIA.

During the meeting, discussions centred on exploring collaboration opportunities in human capital development, innovation research, and impactful community development projects.

Dr Mohd Foad emphasised UUM’s commitment to maintaining its role as a higher education institution that contributes to national development, particularly within the NCER.

“As a leading management university, UUM is consistently prepared to collaborate with organisations such as NCIA to produce high-calibre graduates who can fulfil the demands of the job market and contribute to the well-being of society,” he said.

Mr. Mohamad Haris expressed his appreciation for UUM’s significant contributions, saying, “We greatly appreciate UUM’s contribution in producing highly skilled talent to support the growing demands of the industry in the NCER.

This strategic collaboration will unlock further potential to be explored together, particularly in empowering future talent and enhancing innovation and new technologies that can drive sustainable socio-economic growth in the Northern Region,”

The visit also included discussions on joint initiatives aimed at empowering students and local communities through skills training programmes, entrepreneurship, and research opportunities that promise long-term benefits for the NCER community.

The synergy between UUM and NCIA is anticipated to continue in fostering regional development and enhancing the well-being of the community, aligning with the national aspirations.

In attendance at this meeting were UUM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation), Prof. Dr Russayani Ismail; Director of the Centre for University-Industry Collaboration (CUIC), Prof. Dr Chandrakantan Subramaniam; and Director of the Innovation and Commercialisation Centre (ICC), Assoc. Prof. Dr Mohd Faizal Omar.
