UUM Awarded the Standard Accounting System for Government Agencies (SAGA) Compliance Certificate

KLANG, 2 December 2024: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has been awarded the Standard Accounting System for Government Agencies (SAGA) Compliance Certificate during the 2024 SAGA Compliance Certificate (MASS) Awards Ceremony, which took place at the Wyndham Acmar Klang Hotel on 28 November.

The award was presented by the Accountant General of Malaysia, Mdm. Nor Yati Ahmad, to UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan, and the UUM Bursar, Mr. Abdul Roni Baharom.

This year, UUM is one of the 14 government agencies, including federal statutory bodies and local authorities (PBT), to receive the SAGA Compliance Certificate.

This achievement is attributed to UUM’s success in adhering to the standards established by the FIMS financial system. SAGA compliance was acknowledged during the SAGA Compliance Committee Assessment Visit held on 12 September, which included representatives from the Accountant General’s Department, the National Audit Department, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Higher Education.

In her speech, Mdm. Nor Yati stated that since the year 2010, 26 percent, or 115 agencies out of 434 government agencies, have received the SAGA Compliance Certificate.

She emphasized further that JANM will keep reviewing compliance at agencies that have received the certificate to guarantee consistent adherence to each criterion and the maintenance of its quality.

Universiti Utara Malaysia is one of three public universities that have successfully obtained the SAGA Compliance Certificate for the years 2023 and 2024, along with Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia and Universiti Malaysia Sabah.

This accomplishment proves UUM’s commitment to enhancing its financial system, aligning with the government’s initiatives to promote transparency and efficiency in the financial management of government agencies in Malaysia.

The ceremony was also graced by the presence of representatives from the Bursary, UUMIT, and the UUM Department of Research, Development, and Innovation Affairs (JHEPPI).
