LIMA 2025: A Platform for Global Innovation, Investment and Diplomacy
LANGKAWI, 22 May 2025 – Aptly themed “Innovate Today, Thrive Tomorrow,” the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) 2025 is currently taking place with grandeur, further solidifying its position as one of the largest defence and aerospace events in the Asia-Pacific region.
LIMA 2025 is generating significant positive impacts for the country, spanning economic growth, defence advancement, tourism development, as well as technological and human capital development.
LIMA 2025 serves as a major platform for both local and international companies to forge strategic partnerships. The participation of leading corporations from the defence, aerospace, and maritime sectors opens up opportunities for local industries to secure business agreements, attract foreign investment, and strengthen domestic supply chains. These activities contribute directly to the country’s economic growth, particularly benefitting Kedah and Langkawi.
This exhibition provides Malaysia with the opportunity to observe and assess cutting-edge technologies in the fields of defence and aerospace. It also serves as a platform to showcase local innovations emerging from research and development (R&D) by government agencies, higher education institutions, and local companies. Technological collaborations resulting from LIMA have the potential to enhance the country’s defence capabilities and increase the global competitiveness of Malaysian industries.
As the host location of LIMA, Langkawi experiences substantial benefits through increased tourist arrivals. The event attracts thousands of domestic and international visitors, including official delegations, entrepreneurs, and tourists. As a result, hotels, restaurants, transportation services, and small businesses throughout Langkawi enjoy a significant economic boost during the event.
LIMA 2025 also functions as an educational platform through seminars, forums, and workshops. Students, young engineers, and local professionals have the opportunity to learn directly from world-class industry experts. This contributes to the development of high-quality human capital, aligning with the country’s aspiration to become a regional hub for technology and defence.
The participation of foreign countries in LIMA 2025 reflects international confidence in Malaysia’s role as a key player in regional security. Bilateral meetings among participating countries help strengthen diplomatic and military relations, fostering an atmosphere of stability and cooperation in Southeast Asia.
LIMA also brings together industry and academia. Although UUM is not a university that primarily focuses on aerospace and maritime fields, its management graduates offer complementary expertise to organisations. UUM’s participation in LIMA opens up avenues for collaboration, including opportunities to place Industrial Training students and enhance the marketability of its graduates.
