UUM postgraduates stand out in 3mt Competition 2025
SINTOK, 27 May 2025: Universiti Utara Malaysia proudly hosted the Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition, a dynamic and intellectually stimulating event jointly organised by the Awang Had Salleh Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (AHSGS), the Ghazali Shafie Graduate School of Government (GSGSG), and the Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business (OYAGSB). The competition took place at the OYAGSB Studio, Sintok, drawing attention form across the academic community.
This year’s competition featured two main categories namely the Social Science category and the Science, Engineering, and Technology category. Eleven passionate postgraduate students, representing various academic schools within UUM, stepped up to the challenge. With only three minutes on the clock, they aimed not only to showcase their research expertise but also to enhance their communication skills by presenting complex research topics in accessible and engaging narratives intended to captivate both experts and lay audiences alike.
More than just a contest, the 3MT served as a prestigious platform for emerging scholars to present their research ideas to a broader audience while building self-confidence and honing their public speaking abilities. The event received an encouraging response, with all participants demonstrating remarkable passion, dedication, and professionalism throughout the competition.
Four participants were announced as the winners of the 3 Minute-Thesis Competition, a highly engaging event that challenged contestants to deliver compelling presentations within just three minutes. Aimed at enhancing communication skills and the ability to convey complex ideas succinctly, the competition attracted participants from diverse academic backgrounds.
The winners distinguished themselves through clear, impactful, and creative presentations, impressing the judges with their ability to engage the audience and communicate their research effectively within the limited timeframe.
Congratulations to all four winners on this remarkable achievement. Their success serves as an inspiration to others to continue developing the art of effective and engaging communication. These outstanding individuals will also go on to represent Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) at the upcoming national-level competition hosted by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) this June. We extend our best wishes to them as they continue their journey and strive to make UUM proud on a larger stage. – Nur Nabila Natasha Othman
