UUM Undergoes MS ISO 9001:2015 Recertification Audit by SIRIM QAS

SINTOK, 6 October 2025: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) welcomed a team of auditors from SIRIM QAS today for the  MS ISO 9001:2015 Recertification Audit, which will be conducted over three days, concluding on 8 October 2025.

The opening meeting was officiated by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan.

According to him, the recertification audit plays a vital role in ensuring that UUM continues to uphold the principles of a robust quality management system.

“UUM has implemented MS ISO 9001 for 28 years. In according with evolving standards, the university has consistently enhanced its quality culture through improvements in work processes, self-audits, and internal audits conducted on rotational basis across all schools and centres of authority,” he said during the session held at the Vice-Chancellor’s Meeting Room this morning.

The SIRIM QAS audit team is led by Mr. Muhamad Hadie Aizzat Asli, accompanied by Mr. Tajul Arif Ariffin, Mdm. Rajalekshmi Rama Chandram, Mdm. Sarasvathy Sundara Pathar, Lieutenant Colonel (Retd) Abd Lataf Daud, and Mdm. Siti Rahmah Ahmad.

Prof. Dr Mohd Foad further announced that, moving forward, quality assessment will be conducted exclusively through UUM’s internal audit system, managed by the UUM Quality and Accreditation Management Centre (PPQA UUM).

However, UUM remains dedicated to proceeding with the Surveillance Audit by SIRIM in 2026 and 2027, reflecting the university’s ongoing adherence to international quality standards.

Meanwhile, the Chief Auditor, Mr.  Muhamad Hadie in his address elaborated that the current audit focuses on three main aspects, namely the level of compliance with the ISO 9001:2015 (Amendment 1:2024) standard, the attainment of set objectives and the quality targets set by the respective centres of authority.

He added that the certification encompasses three main areas, namely, the design and development of educational programmes at both the undergraduate (full-time and part-time) and postgraduate levels; delivery of educational services at both the undergraduate (full-time and part-time) and postgraduate levels; and research management, publishing, library services and a range of other support services that enhance the effectiveness of the centres of authority.

This audit underscores UUM’s steadfast commitment to maintaining excellence in its quality management system and its openness to improvement recommendations from SIRIM.
