UUM and LHDNM Kedah Explore Strategic Partnership Initiatives

SINTOK, 25 January 2025: The Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) received a courtesy call from the Director of the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDNM) Kedah Branch, during an official meeting held at the Vice-Chancellor’s Meeting Room, UUM, yesterday.

The visit aimed to strengthen the strategic relationship between UUM and Kedah LHDNM, particularly in the areas of expertise sharing, strategic knowledge and the development of collaborative initiatives that offer mutual benefits to both institutions.

UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Ahmad Martadha, expressed hope that the cooperation between UUM and LHDNM would generate meaningful benefits for both staff and students, especially in matters related to taxation.

Among the key matters discussed was the implementation of a community cooperation programme focused on enhancing public understanding of taxation. This initiative is viewed as a vital platform for increasing community awareness of tax responsibilities and fostering a stronger culture of compliance and civic responsibility.

In addition, both institutions explored proposal to organise structured, recurring collaborative programmes between UUM and LHDNM, aimed at delivering mutual benefits to UUM students and staff and members of the LHDNM community.

These initiatives would involve aspects of expertise sharing, professional training and the active involvement of industry professionals in academic activities.

Meanwhile, Director of LHDNM Kedah Branch, Mr Nor Azam Mohamad, said that the meeting provided a valuable platform for both parties to exchange expertise and strategic insights, paving the way for more structured and effective collaboration in the future.

Moreover, UUM proposed that LHDNM consider the placement of UUM students for industrial training attachments, in accordance with appropriate academic programmes.

In addition, the Vice-Chancellor also proposed that the cooperative relationship between LHDNM and UUM be further strengthened through the implementation of annual corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes, particularly in the field of accounting, as a platform to contribute back to society.

Also present at the meeting were UUM Bursar, Mr Mohtar Hasim; Dean of the Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy (TISSA-UUM), Assoc. Prof. Dr Raja Haslinda Raja Mohd Ali; Director of the Research Management Centre (RMC), Assoc. Prof. Dr Nor Idayu Mahat; Lecturer at the School of Business Management (SBM), Dr Sti Zaleha Ahmad Nadzim and members of the LHDNM delegation.
