Alor Setar, 5 March 2026: The Alumni Centre of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) organised the UUM Alumni Programme with Pusat Jagaan Warga Emas Al-Ikhlas, in collaboration with alumni-owned companies and several non-governmental organisations (NGOs), which was further enlivened by a meaningful iftar gathering with the home’s elderly residents on 5 March.

The programme, held in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, aimed to strengthen ties between UUM alumni, the local community and strategic partners, while fostering a deeper sense of compassion and concern for the welfare of the elderly.

Throughout the programme, alumni and invited guests had the opportunity to spend quality time with the residents of the care home and share the joy of breaking fast together in the blessed spirit of Ramadan.

As part of the initiative, the UUM Alumni Centre, together with its partners, also presented contributions in the form of cash donations and essential daily necessities, including food and basic household items, to help ease the burden of the care home’s management and support the well-being of its residents.

Among the contributors were Dhia Cotton; Bintong Express & Holiday Sdn. Bhd.; the Kedah Malay Chamber of Commerce Malaysia (DPMM); the E-Idaman Group of Companies; the UUM Alumni Association; the Kedah State Zakat Board; Together Great Eastern; as well as individual donors and UUM alumni.

The programme also received personal donations from 41 individuals, comprising members of the organising committee and alumni, bringing the total amount successfully raised to RM12,650.

The Director UUM Alumni Centre, Associate Prof. Dr Lily Julienti Binti Abu Bakar, also expressed her appreciation to the Manager of Al-Ikhlas Elderly Care Home, Puan Siti Marlyana Binti Abu Hassan, for her warm hospitality and willingness to welcome the delegation, which contributed greatly to the success of the programme.

It is hoped that similar initiatives will continue to receive strong support from various parties in the future, as part of ongoing efforts to nurture the spirit of volunteerism and cultivate a culture of giving among the UUM alumni community, particularly in extending assistance to those in need.
