SINTOK, 4 June 2026: The excellence achieved by Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) today is the result of commitment, discipline, teamwork and strong integrity, values that have long been embedded in the university’s institutional DNA.
UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed said that the UUM Innovation Day and University Awards Ceremony (HIMPU) serves as a manifestation of the university’s appreciation for the efforts and dedication of its staff, who have consistently delivered their best service in pursuit of institutional excellence.
A total of 204 recipients of the excellent Service Award (APC), inclusive of 18 recipients for the Excellence Award, four recipients of the Loyalty Award, as well as 64 recipients of awards in the fields of research, publication, teaching and learning, innovation and quality were celebrated at the ceremony.
He said that in the face of rapid advancements in the era of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation, university must always be prepared to change and adapt to current developments to ensure that UUM remains relevant and competitive at both national and international levels.
“The culture of innovation must continue to be strengthened, and technology should be fully utilised in teaching, research activities and service delivery systems,” he said in his speech at HIMPU 2025 held at the Mu’adzam Shah Hall, UUM.
In his address, he also highlighted the importance of the Staff Service Handbook, the Professional Code of Ethics and the UUM Strategic plan 2026 -2030, which will serve as important guidelines for the university’s community in strengthening the governance and realising UUM’s development agenda for the next five years.
He further emphasised that UUM’s achievements are not the result of individual efforts alone, but stems from the strength of a mutually supportive university ecosystem and the spirit of collaboration shared by the entire campus community in advancing the university’s aspirations.
He added that every contribution made by the staff is deeply valued and appreciated, even though not everyone has the opportunity to receive an award each year, as each individual plays an important role in ensuring the smooth operation and continued excellence of UUM on the global stage.
