Lifelong Learning Empowers Human Capital
SINTOK, 14 November 2024 – Lifelong learning is not merely an option but a necessity in a constantly changing and evolving world.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan stated that knowledge and skills acquired at the university are merely the foundation.
“In UUM, we believe that knowledge is an eternal light that never fades, or like water that is essential for all humankind, plants, and animals.
“Remember, the learning process does not necessarily take place only in a classroom or lecture hall. Out there, in the real world, learning happens in every experience, every interaction, and every challenge faced.
“Continue striving to become better, not just for yourself, but for your family, community, and nation,” he added.
He also emphasised, lifelong learning also enables individuals to keep evolving and open doors to new knowledge, experiences, and diverse perspectives.
Lifelong learning also helps boost self-confidence and enables individuals to face life’s challenges more effectively by enhancing their skills and experiences in specific areas. In fact, it can even transform a person into an expert in their chosen field or career
For that, UUM is ready to be a segment of higher education that provides opportunities for those who wish to continue their studies and equip themselves with new skills or refresh old ones to enhance their personal excellence and define their own unique path forward.
Therefore, UUM has structured relevant management-related courses to ensure they genuinely meet the demands and needs of employers. The learning modules are designed to be economical and help foster interest while nurturing individual talents for a more meaningful life.
In addition, he said, continuous improvement also contributes to enhancing an individual’s competitiveness in the job market.
“In an increasingly competitive employment landscape, employers are looking for workers with specialised skills and experience in certain fields.
“Therefore, ongoing self-development is crucial to ensure one possesses the abilities sought after by employers,” he said during the ninth session of the 37th Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Convocation Ceremony at Mu’adzam Shah Hall on Thursday afternoon.
At the same time, he extends his heartiest congratulations to all the graduates of the last session of the 37thConvocation Ceremony, which is reckoned as very special.
In total, there were 711 bachelor’s degree graduates from UUM College of Arts and Sciences, UUM College of Business, and UUM College of Law, Government, and International Studies. All are under the aegis of Centre for Professional and Continuing Education (PACE) at UUM, apart from 22 graduates from the Executive Diploma in Business Management programme.
