UUM’s Ihsan Madani Squad Mobilised to Assist Kedah Flood Victims

SINTOK, 2 December 2024: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM)’s Ihsan Madani Squad was mobilised to assist flood victims around Kedah, particularly at the homes of staff and students affected by the disaster.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan, officially launched the squad, which comprises staff from the UUM Human Resources Department (JSM), the Student Representative Council (MPP), U Riders, and other UUM staff, at the Chancellery building on Monday morning.

The initiative aims to assist UUM denizens and surrounding communities affected by the recent major floods.

Ustaz Mohd Yusnaidi Md. Sabri, the head of the JSM Welfare Unit, stated that the aid mission primarily focuses on humanitarian efforts, including the distribution of essential supplies, providing moral support to victims, and facilitating cleanup operations in the affected areas, particularly around Jitra and Changlun.

“Part of the assistance provided comes from the MKSK Fund Contribution, which was established to support efforts aimed at aiding flood victims.

“UUM will continue this endeavour from time to time to alleviate the challenges faced by UUM denizens affected by the flood,” he said during the launching ceremony of the Ihsan Madani Squad.

Also present at the ceremony were Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Prof. Dr Mohd Azizuddin Mohd Sani; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr Russayani Ismail; and the Registrar, Mr. Ahmad Rasidi Abdullah.

The continuous rain over the past few days has led to a significant rise in the number of flood victims across several districts in Kedah, particularly in areas near the UUM campus.

University students were similarly impacted, prompting the transition of physical classes to an online setting from 29 November to 5 December.

Ustaz Yusnaidi stated that the establishment of the Ihsan Madani Squad has the potential to enhance the spirit of volunteerism among the university community and to bolster the bonds among UUM members who require assistance during disaster situations.
