UUM crowned champion at Taylor’s Intervarsity Mooting Competition 2026

SUBANG JAYA, 23 June 2026: University Utara Malaysia (UUM) emerged as the champion of the Taylor’s Intervarsity Mooting Competition 2026, reaffirming its standing as one of Malaysia’s leading institutions in legal advocacy and mooting excellence.

The victory marks UUM’s second championship title in the prestigious competition, having previously secured the crown in 2022. The team progressed successfully through several rounds before clinching the title in the grand final held at Taylor’s University.
Representing UUM were Mr Balbeer Singh Khera s/o Jasbeer Singh, Ms Elina Sofea Binti Fairus Farid, Ms Vidhyasri d/o Santhiran, and Ms Mohana Lakshimi d/o Munusamy.
Adding to the university’s success, Ms Elina Sofea Binti Fairus Farid received the Best Oralist Award in recognition of her exceptional advocacy skills, legal reasoning, and courtroom performance throughout the competition.
The grand final was presided over by a distinguished panel of judges, including Datuk Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera, Judge of the Federal Court of Malaysia, who announced the final verdict and presented the championship trophy to the winning team.

Commenting on the achievement, Dean of the School of Law, Professor Dr Harlida Abdul Wahab, said the victory reflected the faculty’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence and advocacy training.
“This achievement reflects the dedication, perseverance, and professionalism of our students. Mooting provides an invaluable platform for developing critical thinking, legal research, and advocacy skills, and we are proud to see our students excel at the national level and represent UUM with distinction,” she said.
She added that the success underscores the School of Law’s continuous efforts to nurture graduates equipped with strong legal knowledge, analytical abilities, and professional advocacy skills.
The achievement further strengthens UUM’s track record in national mooting competitions and reinforces the university’s reputation for producing highly competent and articulate future legal practitioners.
