STML community unites for environmental action through 1 Staff 1 Tree Initiative
SINTOK, 25 June 2025: Demonstrating a shared commitment to environmental sustainability, the STML community came together in a meaningful tree planting initiative that marked a significant step toward climate action. The activity served as a powerful example of how collective efforts within an academic institution can contribute to creating a greener, more sustainable campus environment.
The “1 Staff 1 Tree” activity, led by Prof. Log. Ts. Dr. Mohd. Rizal bin Razalli, who also serves as the lecturer and Director of the STML Green Carnival 2025, brought together academic staff and students in a meaningful effort to enhance the campus’s green spaces. Each academic staff member was tasked with planting a tree, symbolizing a personal commitment to environmental conservation.
Students from Class A of the Operations Management System course played a vital role by actively assisting the lecturers and staff members throughout the planting process. Their enthusiastic participation reflected the strong partnership between faculty and students in advancing STML’s sustainability goals.
Two days before the main event, members of the organizing committee and the entire Class A gathered under the guidance of our lecturer, who also served as the program director. On that beautiful evening, they worked diligently to dig a total of 72 planting holes, preparing the site for the upcoming ‘1 Staff 1 Tree’ event.
The activity took place on the STML faculty grounds, where participants worked hand-in-hand to plant a variety of tree species in designated areas. The collaborative spirit was evident as both academic and administrative staff joined forces with students, embodying a unified approach to environmental preservation.
On the day of the event, Prof. Rizal provided us with clear instructions and encouraged our participation. Both lecturers and students assembled with enthusiasm – eager to contribute to the success of the ‘1 Staff 1 Tree’ initiative.
Prof. Rizal, who spearheaded the initiative as part of the broader Green Carnival, emphasized the value of hands-on environmental action. The program directly aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13: Climate Action, reinforcing STML’s commitment to combating climate change through practical, community-driven solutions.
Ultimately, the tree planting initiative represented more than just a green activity – it served as a symbol of institutional unity and environmental consciousness. The collective effort of nurturing young plants stood as a powerful metaphor for collaborative action in preserving our planet for future generations. – STML
