Department of Fisheries and UUM Sealed MoU Strengthening Collaboration in Fisheries Sector
Kuala Muda, Kedah, 1 November 2025 – The strategic collaboration between the academic and government agencies was further strengthened when the Department of Fisheries (DOF) Malaysia and Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in conjunction with the Launching Ceremony of the Fisheries Day Programme 2025, held at the Main Pavillion.

The MoU was sealed to enhance collaboration in the areas of research, innovation, training, as well as the development of the national aquaculture and fisheries industry.
It also recognises the Department of Fisheries’ longstanding role as a major contributor to the Operational Excellence (OPEX) programme at the School of Technology Management and Logistics (STML), UUM.
The ceremony was officiated by the Deputy Secretary-General (Development), Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM), Dato’ Luqman Ahmad.
Among the highlights of the event were the presentation of myGAP certificates to aquaculture entrepreneurs from the Northern Zone, the launch of SirehMAX and myFirst Go Live innovations, as well as the presentation of mock cheques for the Aquaculture Support and Service Delivery System (SPeKS) and Agrotourism initiatives.
The programme was further enlivened with silat performance, group photography session and visits to exhibition booths, sales displays and activities, before concluding with a press conference with the organisers.
The Fishery Day Programme 2025 was organised by the Department of Fisheries Malaysia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, with the support of Malaysia Madani, aimed to raise public awareness of the importance of the fisheries sector in ensuring the nation’s food security.
Also present were the Director-General of Fisheries Malaysia, Dato’ Haji Adnan bin Hussain and Chairman of Kedah State Committee for Agriculture, Plantations and Transport, Tuan Haji Dzowahir bin Haji Ab. Ghani, and UUM officials.
